Roland Cactus Cafe Coffee House and Variety, Roland, Manitoba
The Roland
"Cactus Cafe Coffee House and Variety" is a non-profit Coffee House, run
entirely by volunteers, that provides a variety of quality entertainment
on an approximately bi-monthly basis. As a lot of the volunteers are musicians
themselves, with a vast back-ground in performing and event-planning, they
are able to put on an event that is a delight for both audience and performing
guests. We hold our Coffee House in the Roland Memorial Hall which is an
intimate, warm sounding room with wood floor and high ceilings. The hall
is decorated in a "south-west" theme with plenty of cactus decor. The Cactus
Cafe provides great lighting, a quality sound system, sound technician(s),
stage crew, a spacious well decorated stage, flat black backdrop, friendly
organizers, a warm appreciative audience, advertising and promotion, as
well as invitations to local festival organizers to come and "audition"
potential talent. There is no admission charge to this family event, although
donations are accepted to cover the costs and to improve the technical
requirements. So far we have built a quality lighting system (5 X par64s,
1 X par64 spotlight, 8 X par 38s, 2 X controller box with dimmers, etc.),
a flat black backdrop with stands and are presently building up a quality
sound system (we presently beg, borrow and rent sound equipment). ROLAND
MUSICIANS' ASSOCIATION HISTORY The Roland Musicians' Association is a non-profit
group organized to keep music alive and growing in the Pembina Valley.
We organize coffee houses, workshops and concerts for children, families,
adults and seniors. We also act as an educational resource for numerous
other educational and community groups by offering assistance in event
planning, performers database, consultation on staging, sound and lighting.
The board meets twice per month to set direction for events, maintain an
accountable budget and coordinate a large number of volunteers. There are
no paid positions. Our two-year history reveals a solid record of planning
events that aid the community in an entertaining, educational, organized
and responsible manner. MISSION STATEMENT The RMA is a nonprofit organization
whose primary purpose is to increase the visibility of the arts, particularly
musical artists in the Pembina Valley, including, but not limited to, Roland,
Morden, Winkler, Altona, Carman, Manitou, Miami, Somerset, and Morris.
This is accomplished through providing quality venues where Manitoba artists/musicians
present their work to the public. We have a strong belief in education
and support all family-oriented entertainment.
